Garam Masala is a spice blend used widely in Indian and Pakistani cuisines. Although recipes vary throughout the various countries where the spice is used, at Starwest we offer Garam masala spice with cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, cumin, pepper and coriander. This quality Garam masala spice blend is available as a salt-free, kosher-certified powder as well as an organic version.
You might consider Garam masala spice as an easy-to-use spice rub for your next grilled chicken or cornish game hens. It can also be added to marinade for poultry, with the addition of some oil, ginger and garlic. It can be spread under loosened poultry skin, and then allowed to marinate all day in the refrigerator before baking.
Other meats can be cooked using Garam masala. Try lamb chops seasoned with the spice, and serve couscous with hydrated dried fruit such as cranberries or apricots mixed in. Ground beef can be given a lift with a bit of this spice blend added to it, and then formed into burgers to bake or grill.
You could also make savory fritters to be served alongside the meat. Vegetables such as diced peppers, zucchini or potato cubes can be seasoned with a bit of the spice, then dropped into a beer batter and fried by the tablespoon in hot oil until golden and crispy. It could also easily be added to your favorite onion ring recipe for a kick of spice. If you use a mandoline and thinly slice your own organic potatoes, you could make amazing homemade potato chips that you could sprinkle with the spice blend as well.
If you prefer vegetarian fare, try Dal. This is an Indian dish made from lentils, onion and tomatoes, and it uses the spice mix to season it well.
Sometimes desserts can be livened up with a hint of spice. Such is the case with a small sprinkle of garam masala in sugar that is used over chunks of fresh fruit such as mango or papaya.
